Zoonoses 2026

About the conference

The ASID Zoonoses Conference is held every 2 years to promote cross disciplinary knowledge, education and research in the field of zoonotic diseases and explore Australian and global approaches to zoonoses control and preparedness.

Bringing together scientists, clinicians, veterinarians, ecologists, policymakers, and community leaders under a One Health lens to tackle today’s urgent challenges. Across two themed days, the program will explore global drivers of spillover such as climate change, urbanisation, and wildlife trade; highlight advances in surveillance, genomics, and field diagnostics; and address equity through Indigenous knowledge, food security, and community partnerships.

Why attend?

Zoonoses 2026 isn’t just another infectious-diseases meeting — it’s where the walls between human, animal, and environmental health come down.

This cross-disciplinary conference brings together infectious-disease clinicians, veterinarians, microbiologists, ecologists, public-health professionals, policymakers, and researchers to tackle one shared challenge: how to prevent, detect, and respond to zoonotic threats in a rapidly changing world.

Whether you’re managing outbreaks, studying emerging pathogens, designing surveillance systems, or shaping policy, Zoonoses 2026 will equip you with insights, connections, and strategies to work smarter across sectors.

Welcome note from ASID

On behalf of the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID), we are delighted to invite you to participate in the 2026 ASID Zoonoses Conference. This leading meeting is held every two years and provides an excellent opportunity to focus on a One Health approach to the rising challenge of zoonotic diseases.

Zoonotic diseases make up about 60% of human infectious diseases. These diseases have a significant global impact, driving millions of illnesses and deaths annually, while also costing billions in healthcare and agriculture. Preventing and controlling zoonotic diseases relies on a “One Health” approach—integrating human, animal, and environmental health through measures like animal vaccination, food safety, vector control, surveillance, and global cooperation.

This specialty event brings together more than 200 delegates including clinical microbiologist and infectious disease physicians, ecologists, veterinarians and veterinary nurses, public health and epidemiology specialists, regulatory affairs, immunisation professionals, agriculture and environmental professionals, disease surveillance specialists, animal health scientists and researchers.

ASID and our special interest group, ZOOSIG, play a vital role in raising the profile of zoonotic disease research and control and offers an opportunity for or valued partners to collaborate across disciplines and strengthen the education in this field together.

We look forward to welcoming you to Brisbane for this exciting meeting.
