The main theme for ASID BJI 2026 is: " Bridging Science and Clinical Practice in Bone and Joint Infection”

For your presentation to being considered, these abstract guidelines must be followed. Please ensure that the presenting author completes the abstract submission. Abstracts must be submitted by 11:59pm, Friday 1 May 2026, Australian Eastern Standard Time.

Please ensure you have read the guidelines and information below before submitting your abstract.

Submit an Abstract

Abstract and author details must be submitted online using the ASID 2026 Abstract Submission Portal

  • Abstract should be thoroughly checked for spelling and grammar. No editing will be conducted on behalf of authors and abstracts will be published as submitted. Edits to abstracts will not be permitted after submissions have closed. 
  • An abstract must be submitted by the presenting author and only the presenting authors contact details should be used in the submission form • Abstracts must be prepared in accordance with the guidelines below. 
  • By submitting an abstract, the author automatically allows ASID to publish their abstract in any accompanying USB, Conference App, Conference Report and on the ASID website. 
  • When submitting your abstract details online you must indicate if you are willing to present your abstract as an oral presentation, if you are chosen.   
  • Successful abstracts will be considered for oral presentations to be included in an appropriate session within the main program. 

 

ABSTRACT GUIDELINES 

All abstracts must: 

  • Be prepared in Arial 11-point type only
  • Single spacing should be used 
  • Specify all abbreviations in full at the first mention, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses, thereafter abbreviation only should be used 
  • Abstracts must be original and written in English 
  • Abstracts must NOT have a header or footer on the page 
  • Do not include references 

 

All abstracts must include: 

  • TITLE should appear in BOLD CAPITALS
  • Principal author to appear first 
  • Underline the name of the author who will be presenting the paper 
  • Use surname followed by initials with no punctuation (do not use full stops or commas between surname and initials e.g. Smith AB, Jones J, Chan L, McDonald W) 
  • Omit degrees and titles 
  • Include affiliations for each author. Use superscript numbering after the author’s name to indicate affiliations 

 

Authors will be required to indicate if they are:

  • Trainee
  • PhD Student
  • Early career researcher
  • ASID member

 

Body of abstract: 

  • Maximum length is 250 words excluding title (up to 20 words) and authors (excess words may not be printed) 
  • Content must include the study’s objectives, methodology (if relevant), summary of results and the conclusion 
  • Present your work as a structured abstract with the following Subheadings Introduction, Methods, Results and Conclusions (if relevant)
  • A maximum of one figure or one table may be used
  • Note: If your abstract does not conform to the guidelines, including if it is over 250 words (plus max 20-word title), it will be returned to the submitting author to revise. 


ALL ABSTRACTS MUST INCLUDE:

Disclosure of Interest Statement:

Example: “The Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases recognises the considerable contribution that industry partners make to professional and research activities. We also recognise the need for transparency of disclosure of potential conflicts of interest by acknowledging these relationships in

publications and presentations.”

Disclosure of interest statement – Industry:

Example 1. Organisation X declares payments to his institution for investigator-initiated research from Industry Company X.

Example 2. Organisation X has received donated materials from Industry Company X. All other authors declare no competing interests.

 
Acknowledgement of Funding

Example 1. This study was funded in part by the Government Body X.

Example 2. Organisation X receive grant funding from the Government Body X. No pharmaceutical / Industry grants were received for this study.

Note: If accepted into the program you will be requested to include a disclosure of interest slide into your presentation or include such statements in your poster.

 

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION

Abstract presenting authors will be required to fund their own attendance at the conference.

All presenting authors will be required to register for the conference by the Early Bird date, Friday 17 July 2026. Any presenter not registered will be removed from the program.
